Science, Politics and Employment

7/5/2017

My genome is not my work history – nor present nor future.

After a long job search in the Great Recession I came away with a testimony; an experience that changed my life. I searched in a profoundly altering workforce.  Enter Science.  The word, “science” partly sums-up my testimony. The handshake was replaced with the mindshake. Businesses were turning to psychometric tests, 18-page background searches and inquiring about cultural affinity.  In my current job a resume was not requested. Sciences-in-software has become the norm to evaluate mental, biological, psychological being. The Harvard Business Review tweeted on 7/3, “What Matters now is not the skills you have but how you think.”

If it’s science-based data it must be truth. Ah, but we need more truth. Enter politics!

Last March, Rep. Foxx, Virginia [R-NC-5] sponsored a bill titled, H.R.1313 - Preserving Employee Wellness Programs Act . It was introduced as a bill to protect employees in businesses that offer a managed wellness program. However, it really will enable wellness management firms acquire genetic data from employees and their family members. It seeks to override the Americans with Disabilities Act, 1990 and GINA, the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008.  Rep Foxx, with the support of the American Benefits Council, has deceived 22 House members into pushing this dangerous bill forward. The American Society of Human Genetics agrees, as do hundreds of research and sciences organizations: it’s just plain early-stage bio-discrimination.

My testimony bears out the new reality: Perhaps people lie on resumes and in interviews – but science-in-software; well, the solution. Should businesses demand my DNA? If so, game over. The gate is off its hinges for me, you and our children. We’ll have no personal data left to protect.

World Agreement: earth & terrorism

6/4/2017

This is a short blog post with notabilia out of the daily journals. The matters are terrorism and global warming:

Ø
Republicans deny there is alarming and verifiable global warming
Ø  Democrats deny Islam being the root ideology behind terrorists’ actions
--------------------------------------------

Ø  Global warming is destroying the planet making it one day uninhabitable
Ø  Terrorism is diabolical, destroying the human race.
Dozens of business executives formed a united voice for the Paris Climate Agreement after the US President backed out of it June 1st.
None of these executives have united their voices calling for a global agreement to reduce terrorism, even in light of the latest attacks in Kabul and Baghdad.

         Facts: Year 2017 Terror Acts
         630 attacks
         4,204 fatalities
The root of terrorism spreads across the globe like a rising tide with no shores.

Are we all in agreement?

Hiring ACGT and H.R. 1313

5/29/2017

By this time of year college graduates have read a few “how to” books about finding a career. They should also read a new legislative initiative, H.R.1313, but first -
for those who don't know about genetics, there are four  bases found in a DNA molecule: adenine (A), cytosine (C), guanine (G), and thymine (T). The unique sequences of bases in a portion of a DNA molecule, called genes, carries the instructions needed to assemble proteins that forms all life. That’s as scientific as this blog post gets.

In March of this year Rep. Virginia Foxx, [R-NC-5] sponsored  a bill titled, H.R.1313 - Preserving Employee Wellness Programs Act  - to 3 House Committees: Energy and Commerce; Ways and Means and, finally referred to the Committee on Education and the Workforce.

The House bill supports wellness management firms acquiring genetic data from employees and their family members. It seeks to override the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and GINA, the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008. Rep Foxx, with the support of the American Benefits Council, has deceived 22 House members thus far, into pushing this dangerous and potentially discriminatory bill forward.

We have to ask hiring executives as well as health managers what they hope to do with approximately 25,000 genes per individual. The answer is clear isn’t it? Eliminate employee diversity under the guise of a health admin firm.

The human genome is DNA, the most complex, miraculous life creating substance known to mankind. It’s also the final human data protected by law. So, how have we come to this? To understand how and why HR offices have been infiltrated with predictive health and psychometrics software is realizing the beginning of a transition to bio-profiling that must be stopped. One story is found in, The Only Fields That Matter.

5 Minute Commencement Speech

5/8/2017

Hello graduates.  Since you are all holding your phones I wish to make 5 abbreviated statements and then let you get back to sharing media. You may record my statements and post them to all your followers and friends afterward.

Number One: From now on all of your social media profiles, activities and connections will be observed by eyes you never would expect to be interested. Guard your words.

Number Two: Speaking in public or professionally speaking means you will be vocalizing feelings and human exasperations, empathy, distain and hope alike – remember that someone - and sometimes the whole world -  is listening. Guard your presence.

Number Three: You know the digital world is one of tracking and profiling by business, marketers, financial and government sources. Avoid radicalization online but don’t be afraid to start a movement in the public square. Guard your courage.

Number Four: Don’t overshare personal information about friends and family, especially about their health issues, as many do on Facebook. This can hurt others when potential employers or businesses feed private data through algorithms. Guard your loved ones.

Number Five: Since you were very young the internet has been the best connection to your world 24x7. You will enter the business world where many kinds of personal data will be extracted from you. Not just by unseen tracking mechanisms behind your web activities but explicitly requested by employers, financial firms, retailers, vacation clubs, rewards programs, wellness programs and more. Profiles from your youth cannot be left like old photographs on a dorm room wall. Start fresh and delete the old. Guard your memories.

Your passions and gifting’s really do matter and the world needs the hope inside each one of you. Finally, your digital world will change as do all things.  Show us your life and in that way we will disregard all the big data on you - when we see your real purpose and passions expressed in endless opportunities throughout life.

Thank you, Class of 2017
